VIDAR SHOWCASES ONCOLOGY & MAMMOGRAPHY FILM DIGITIZERS AT RSNA 2007
Also Introduces White Paper Reviewing Digitizers for Full-Field Digital Mammography
Herndon, VA VIDAR Systems Corporation, a leader in medical imaging technology, will unveil significant upgrades to its DosimetryPRO® Advantage film digitizer and highlight its market-leading CAD PRO® Advantage digitizer for mammography at the 2007 Radiological Society of North America meeting in Chicago, Nov. 25–29.
VIDAR’s DosimetryPRO Advantage, long the standard of care for oncology treatment planning, now features a red LED (light-emitting diode) version for use with International Specialty Products’ GAFCHROMIC® EBT film. GAFCHROMIC EBT film enjoys widespread use in Europe and Asia, and is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. Other upgrades to the DosimetryPRO include USB connectivity, RoHS compliance to meet new European Union standards for lead-free electronics, and a new removable LED lighting system that replaces the previous fluorescent lamp design and offers significantly longer lamp life. The DosimetryPRO with red LED will be released in early 2008.
In addition, VIDAR’s CAD PRO Advantage will be on display, and attendees can view the digitizer running with VIDAR’s ClinicalExpress® software and evaluate image quality on an approved mammography reading workstation. The CAD PRO Advantage was featured in a comparative study conducted at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and published in the Journal of Digital Imaging (March 2007). In the study, eight radiologists interpreted 120 mammography examinations, half as original films and half as digitized images on a workstation. Results showed no significant differences between the interpretations of conventional film mammography examinations and softcopy exams produced by the CAD PRO Advantage film digitizer.
The company also will be distributing a new white paper, “Realizing the Benefits of Full-Field Digital Mammography—The Role of the Film Digitizer.” The white paper provides a comprehensive review of important technology and workflow considerations for mammography departments and imaging centers considering the transition to digital mammography. It highlights often-overlooked but important issues such as the need to review patients’ prior mammography exams for comparison, which is difficult and cumbersome unless prior analog films first are digitized. Available digitizer hardware and software solutions are outlined for low-, mid-, and high-volume facilities, making the white paper a must-read for any facility considering the acquisition of a digital mammography system. Copies of the mammography white paper and clinical study can be obtained from VIDAR.
